School Cleaning in Berkshire & Surrey

Term-time cleaning and holiday deep cleans for schools, nurseries and colleges — worked around the timetable, delivered to a written specification.

Berkshire EcoClean provides contract cleaning for primary and secondary schools, nurseries, pre-schools and independent settings across Berkshire and Surrey. That covers the daily clean after the last bell, the periodic deep work that only fits into half term and the summer holidays, and one-off cleans after building or refurbishment works.

A school is not an office with smaller chairs. The cleaning schedule is part of how a setting controls infection, and UK Health Security Agency guidance for children and young people's settings asks that cleaning schedules clearly describe the activities required, the frequency of cleaning and who will carry them out. We write your specification that way — area by area, frequency by frequency, with someone named against each line — so it stands up when your governors, your local authority or an inspector asks to see it.

The second difference is access. Who may be on site, when, and under what supervision is the school's decision, not the contractor's. We confirm in writing what checks the operatives assigned to your site hold before they set foot on it, and we work to whatever your safeguarding policy requires.

Term-time daily clean

  • Classrooms — desks, chairs, touch points, floors and bins
  • Toilets and washrooms sanitised, consumables restocked
  • Hand-touch surfaces — door handles, push plates, light switches, taps and flush handles
  • Dining hall and servery-adjacent areas cleaned after sittings
  • Corridors, stairwells, entrances and reception
  • Staff rooms, offices, libraries and meeting rooms
  • Halls, gyms and changing rooms

Holiday and periodic deep cleans

  • Whole-site deep clean at half term, Easter or over the summer
  • Hard-floor strip, seal and polish; carpet and matting extraction
  • Washroom descaling and full sanitisation
  • High-level dusting, vents, light fittings and internal glass
  • Furniture, under-desk and behind-radiator build-up
  • Post-works cleans so a refurbished area is ready for the first day of term

How it works

1

Site survey

We walk the site with your business or premises manager, area by area, and agree what is cleaned, how often and when.

2

Written specification

Activities, frequency and accountability set out on paper, with a colour-coded equipment plan for each area type.

3

Vetting and access

We confirm in writing the checks held by every operative assigned to your site, and work to the level your safeguarding policy sets.

4

Supervised delivery

Trained, insured operatives, periodic supervisor audits, documented sign-off and a scope review each term.

Who it's for

  • Primary and secondary schools wanting a dependable term-time contract
  • Nurseries, pre-schools and EYFS rooms with higher hygiene demands
  • Business and premises managers replacing an underperforming contractor
  • Academies and trusts wanting one supplier across several sites
  • Independent schools and colleges needing holiday deep cleans only

Eco-friendly products, as standard

Eco-friendly products and reusable microfibre are standard on school contracts at no premium, and we make no chemical-free or non-toxic claims about them. Where UKHSA guidance calls for a product effective against both bacteria and viruses — washrooms, dining areas, and any spillage of blood or body fluids — we use one that is, and we name it on the specification. Being greener is never a reason to under-disinfect a school. What the eco approach does buy you is lower odour and less fragrance loading in rooms full of children. Products are stored locked and out of reach of pupils, as they must be in any setting.

How long it takes

Term-time cleaning almost always happens after the last pupil leaves, and the site rather than the clock sets the length: a one-form-entry primary is a short after-school visit, while a multi-block secondary needs a team working in parallel. We scale the team instead of stretching the hours, so the building is finished and locked at a predictable time each day. Holiday deep cleans are planned in days rather than hours and want booking well ahead, because every school in the county wants the same fortnight in August. Exact visit lengths are confirmed in writing at survey.

Pricing

School contracts are priced per site after a survey, based on cleanable area, frequency and the agreed specification — not on a headline hourly rate that hides what is actually being cleaned. Holiday deep cleans and post-works cleans are fixed-quoted, so they can be set against a budget before the holiday starts. Request a free site survey and written proposal.

School Cleaning — frequently asked questions

All our commercial operatives are DBS-checked, insured, uniformed and trained. The level of check a school needs is set by the school rather than by us: an enhanced check with children's barred list information applies to regulated activity, and GOV.UK's DBS guidance is explicit that working somewhere children are present does not by itself place a cleaner in regulated activity. Tell us at survey what your safeguarding policy requires and we will confirm in writing, before you contract us, whether the assigned team meets it.
