Retail & Shop Cleaning in Berkshire & Surrey
Shops, showrooms and salons cleaned before you open or after you close — floors left dry, glass and touch points detailed, waste handled.
Berkshire EcoClean cleans retail premises across Berkshire and Surrey — independent shops and boutiques, showrooms, salons and treatment rooms, parade and forecourt units, and all the back-of-house that customers never see. Work is scheduled before opening or after closing, on a contract or one-off basis, so nothing about the clean is visible to a customer except the result.
A shop floor is not an office floor. The Health and Safety Executive is blunt about it: slips and trips remain the single most common cause of major injury in the retail sector, and the causes HSE lists are cleaning causes — smooth cleaned floors left wet, spills not cleaned up quickly and effectively, and a failure to keep the floor free from contamination. One of those three is created by the clean itself. So the method matters as much as the schedule. We clean in sections, leave smooth floors dry before the doors open, and treat a wet floor sign as a warning rather than a control — HSE guidance is explicit that signs and cones only warn of a hazard, they do not prevent people from entering the area.
The rest is written down. Regulation 9 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 requires that every workplace and the furniture, furnishings and fittings in it are kept sufficiently clean, and that waste materials are not allowed to accumulate except in suitable receptacles. That is a low bar in law, and a unit with a stockroom and a daily delivery of packaging can quietly fall below it. Your specification sets out what is cleaned, how often and by whom, area by area, so it stands up when a landlord, a franchisor or an area manager asks to see it.
Every scheduled retail clean
- Shop floor — hard floors and carpet, cleaned in sections and left dry
- Entrance matting and thresholds, where most contamination is stopped
- Glass from the inside — entrance doors, display cabinets, partitions and mirrors
- Counters, tills, card terminals, handrails and other hand-touch points
- Fitting rooms, seating and customer waiting areas
- Customer and staff washrooms sanitised, consumables restocked
- Stockroom, staff room and back-of-house to the same standard as the floor
- Waste bagged, streams kept separate, moved to your agreed collection point
Periodic and one-off work
- Hard-floor strip, seal and polish; vinyl and tile restoration
- Carpet and entrance-matting hot-water extraction
- High-level dusting — shelving tops, vents, light fittings, internal signage
- Washroom descaling and full sanitisation
- Post-refit and after-builders cleans before you reopen
- Seasonal reset before a peak trading period or a new floor layout
- One-off cleans for pop-ups, concessions and short lets
How it works
Site survey
We walk the unit in and out of trading hours — floor types, footfall, matting, access, alarm and keyholding — before quoting.
Written specification
Area by area: what is cleaned, how often and who is accountable, with the method set against each floor type.
Out-of-hours delivery
Before opening or after closing. Floors are cleaned in sections and left dry, so the unit is trading-ready at the door.
Supervised and reviewed
Trained, insured operatives, periodic supervisor audits, and a scope review before each peak trading period.
Who it's for
- Independent shops, boutiques and galleries wanting a dependable daily or several-times-weekly clean
- Showrooms and forecourt units where presentation is most of the sale
- Salons, barbers and treatment rooms with their own hygiene expectations
- Retail units with a food counter, deli or café needing a food-hygiene-aware clean
- Multi-site retailers and parade landlords wanting one supplier on one specification
- Store managers replacing a contractor that leaves wet floors at opening time
Eco-friendly products, as standard
Eco-friendly products and reusable microfibre are standard on retail contracts at no premium, and we make no chemical-free or non-toxic claims about them. Two things make the eco approach a practical fit for a shop rather than only an ethical one. Low fragrance loading matters where customers browse for half an hour and staff stand in it for eight — a heavily perfumed unit is a complaint at the counter waiting to happen. And refillable concentrates cut the plastic arriving at a unit that already handles more packaging than it wants; where you would rather have the products used listed on your specification, or displayed to customers, we will do that. Where a surface needs a product effective against both bacteria and viruses — washrooms, food counters, hand-touch points during an illness spike — we use one and name it on the spec.
How long it takes
The floor sets the time in retail, not the stock. A small independent unit is usually a short visit before opening; a large showroom, a multi-room salon, or a unit with a stockroom and customer washrooms takes longer, and a team working in parallel clears a big floor far faster than one person working late. Because the real constraint is the door opening rather than the clock, we scale the team to the window you give us. Periodic floor treatment — strip, seal and polish, or carpet and matting extraction — is planned separately, normally overnight or on a closed day, because it needs drying time a trading day will not give it. Exact visit lengths are confirmed in writing at survey.
Pricing
Retail cleaning is priced per site after a survey, based on cleanable area, floor type, frequency and the agreed specification — not on a headline hourly rate that hides what is actually being cleaned. Periodic floor treatment, post-refit cleans and one-off pre-opening cleans are fixed-quoted, so they can be set against a budget before the work starts.
