Virginia Water station is a junction where South Western Railway's Waterloo to Reading line meets the Chertsey branch line, roughly 23 miles from London Waterloo. Having two routes through one station makes the village unusually well connected for its size and explains its commuter profile.

Virginia Water adjoins Windsor Great Park, and the surrounding landscape is heathland and woodland. As in Sunningdale, that shows up indoors: leaf litter, sandy grit and wet-weather mud carried in on boots and paws, concentrated in entrance halls, boot rooms and stairs. Hard-floor and carpet care matters more here than the size of the house alone would suggest.
