Domestic Cleaning Prices in Berkshire (2026 Guide)

Ask what a cleaner costs in Berkshire and you will get an hourly rate, which is not the number you actually need. What you need is the cost of a visit to your property, at the frequency you want, with everything included. This guide gives both — the going rate, and what it works out at per visit for real property types across Ascot, Windsor, Bracknell, Maidenhead and the surrounding areas.

The hourly rate is the same across Berkshire. The bill is not.

This is the single most misunderstood thing about local cleaning prices. The hourly rate barely moves between Berkshire towns — a cleaner's time costs what it costs. What changes dramatically is how many hours your property needs.

A two-bedroom apartment in central Maidenhead is a two-hour visit. A four-bedroom detached house in Ascot with three bathrooms is a four-hour visit, sometimes more. Same rate, roughly double the invoice. If a provider quotes you a higher hourly rate purely because of your postcode, that is a premium for the address rather than for the work, and it is worth asking them to justify it.

Why weekly costs less per visit than fortnightly

It sounds backwards, but it is straightforward: a home cleaned every week has seven days of use to deal with, and a home cleaned every fortnight has fourteen. The fortnightly visit takes longer, so it costs more per visit — often enough that the annual difference between weekly and fortnightly is far smaller than people expect.

Monthly cleaning is the worst value per hour of the three. A month of accumulation pushes the visit towards deep-clean territory, and the property spends most of the month below the standard you are paying for. If budget is the constraint, a shorter weekly or fortnightly visit covering fewer rooms usually beats a long monthly one.

What should be included in the price

Before comparing two quotes, check they include the same things. A reputable Berkshire provider should include, at no extra charge:

• All cleaning products and equipment — you should not be buying or storing anything, and eco-friendly products should not be a paid upgrade.
• Public liability insurance and DBS-checked cleaners. This is not optional if anyone is holding your key.
• Cover when your regular cleaner is on holiday or off sick, working to the same checklist.
• A written scope, so "clean the house" is defined rather than assumed.
• No joining fee, no call-out charge and no minimum contract term.

The things that are legitimately extra: ironing and laundry, internal oven cleaning, inside-cupboard and fridge cleaning, external windows, and carpet or upholstery extraction. Those belong to a deep clean or a specialist visit, not a routine one — a provider including them silently in a routine visit is either not doing them properly or not doing something else.

What actually changes your price in Berkshire

• Bathrooms, not bedrooms. Bathrooms and kitchens are the most labour-intensive rooms in any home. A three-bedroom house with three bathrooms costs more than a four-bedroom house with one.
• Hard water. Berkshire is a hard-water area, so limescale in showers, screens and taps builds faster than the national norm and adds time to every visit — particularly the first one.
• Condition at the start. The first visit on a property that has not been professionally cleaned before almost always takes longer. Many clients start with a deep clean and move onto a regular schedule from that baseline, which is cheaper than paying first-visit overruns repeatedly.
• Pets and children. Not a surcharge, but genuinely more floor, more surfaces and more soft furnishings to deal with, which shows up as visit length.
• Access and parking. Constrained central parking in Windsor and Maidenhead affects scheduling more than price, but a provider who ignores it will be late rather than cheap.

Same rate, different properties — here is how that plays out across the areas we cover:

• Bracknell is the best value in our service area for regular domestic cleaning, and not by accident. As a New Town its housing is largely planned estates with repeating layouts, so visits are predictable and typically land in the two-and-a-half to three-hour band.
• Maidenhead splits: town-centre and riverside apartments are efficient two-hour visits, while family homes in Boyn Hill, Furze Platt and Cox Green sit in the mid range.
• Windsor has a wide spread. Family homes in Clewer and Dedworth price conventionally; period and conservation-area property near the centre needs more detail work than the floor area suggests.
• Sunninghill and Sunningdale are mostly substantial detached homes, usually a three-to-four hour visit.
• Ascot, Virginia Water and the Wentworth Estate are large detached and estate-scale property, quoted per home rather than off a size band. A two-person team is usually the right answer here — it halves the elapsed time for broadly the same cost, because you are paying for hours of work rather than for headcount.

How to compare quotes properly

1. Ask for a per-visit price, not just an hourly rate. The rate without the hours tells you nothing.
2. Confirm the visit length that price assumes, and what happens if the job routinely overruns it.
3. Check products, equipment, insurance, DBS checks and holiday cover are all included rather than added.
4. Get the scope in writing, room by room, so the standard is measurable rather than a matter of opinion.
5. Ask whether you get the same cleaner each visit. Continuity is most of the value in a regular clean, and it is the first thing a very cheap quote sacrifices.

The cheapest quote is rarely the best value. A very low rate usually means no insurance, no vetting, no cover and no accountability — and a clean that takes longer or has to be redone.
